The Hockaday School welcomes back graduate

Dallas, Texas [April 6, 2009]: Monday morning, racing driver, Lindsey Adams, will return to her roots by presenting at career day at The Hockaday School. Adams, who graduated from the prestigious all girls school in 2006, is looking forward to speaking to the students about what it means to be a professional race car driver. What Lindsey learned in her fourteen years at Hockaday goes past just an education in literature, history, the sciences, and mathematics. She believes Hockaday gave her the confidence and knowledge to make independent decisions on what she decided to do with her life.

"When I first started racing it didn't bother me that there was a difference between my competitors and me. Of course, being the only girl at a race track full of boys was a change, but I never thought that I was out of place or not entitled to a win because I was a female in a male dominated sport. I had learned how to recognize gender barriers, but to never be affected by them. In fact, I was taught at an early age that I was extraordinary in my own right and that the only one who could set limitations on myself would be me," Lindsey commented.

Hockaday is looking forward to seeing one of their graduates return to the all-familiar hallways and teachers of her youth.

Renee Laffitte, Lindsey's 7th grade history teacher and assistant head of middle school, spoke about her return: “I am so proud of the strong, confident woman Lindsey has become. She has chosen a career path that not only suits her well, but also illustrates that a rigorous, well-rounded education is valuable in every profession. I appreciate Lindsey taking time to share her experience with other Daisies.”

Lindsey is eager to meet the girls and learn about their own unique dreams and aspirations. She will spend time with about 85 young ladies teaching them about her dream and what it takes to be a racing driver on a professional circuit.

Adams closed with saying, "Hockaday is an environment where young ladies learn to be themselves and have their own unique way of life. I could not be more thrilled about participating in career day and meeting these fine young women on their way to living extraordinary lives."

Katy Trail 5k 05.19.2009
Last Thursday my friend, Leah, and I ran in the Katy Trail 5k. The Katy Trail is a privately maintained public park in uptown Dallas. The marathon was the annual event used to raise money for the Friends of the Katy Trail, the nonprofit organization that is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the Katy Trail. Leah and I, along with about 5,000 others ran to support the Katy Trail and have fun in our community! I was thrilled to be participating in the event and loved getting to see how my community came together to support our gorgeous public park. The 5K, memberships of the Katy Trail, and the local support of our restaurants and businesses have helped raise more than $20 million, naming the Katy Trail one of the great American public parks. Thank you to those who sponsored the event and to everyone who ran/walked in the race. Looking forward to seeing you all next year! ... full entry
