(April 7, 2008): DIRECTV Hometown Heroes, a new original series hosted by Joan Lunden, features the inspirational stories of everyday people whose extraordinary acts of kindness, courage and bravery are making a profound difference in the lives of others. Each week, the 30-minute program honors three exceptional members of the DIRECTV community from across America. These unsung heroes show us how we all can make a difference.

Lindsey Adams, a third generation racing driver, began a program in 2007, with her mother, Debbie, called Survivors’ Circle. Lindsey wanted to use her racing for something more than just a competitive endeavor at the race track every weekend. 

“When I was seventeen, I almost lost my mother, for the second time, to breast cancer. At that point I knew I wanted to dedicate my career to fighting for the cause. We started Survivors’ Circle, a program where at every race we honor a breast cancer survivor or a family that has fought the breast cancer fight by putting their names on my car and dedicating that particular race to them.” Lindsey remarked. 

Peggy Ladd from Richardson, Texas was one of the first survivors who was honored on the race car and interviewed by Hometown Heroes. Lindsey continues to recognize survivors in the cities where she is racing. Hometown Heroes joined Lindsey for the Skip Barber National Race at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, in which Lindsey added a local breast cancer survivor, Cheryl Krajci from Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, to Survivors’ Circle. Lindsey provides a special section on her website to share the experience that these women have had in their fight against this disease. Survivors’ Circle brings family and friends together and provides a forum for communication.

Debbie Adams commented, “So many of the survivors that we have met do not have breast cancer in their family, making this connection for all women is part of the awareness we have created.  Early detection is the only protection a woman has.”

During the past two years Lindsey has raised over $10,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York City and the National Breast Cancer Foundation in Frisco, Texas.  Lindsey continues to raise awareness and provide a forum for family and friends whose lives have been touched or forever changed by cancer. The race car has been used to gain exposure for the cause of breast cancer and contributed a big part in helping to raise the funds that support the non-profit foundations and their programs. Lindsey is very grateful for the support of family and friends that sponsored survivors on her car in the beginning of establishing Survivors’ Circle. Lindsey Adams Racing and the Adams family have continued to underwrite this program for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
